IWC Big Pilot IW5004-06 GASSAN
The IWC Big Pilot is one of the most recognisable pilot’s watches ever made, and the IW5004-06 is a particularly special version. Produced in 2007 as a limited GASSAN edition of just 30 pieces, it combines the unmistakable 46 mm Big Pilot case with an 18k rose gold case and a clean silver dial. The GASSAN name and individual edition number are engraved on the case back, giving this watch a discreet but very interesting connection to the Dutch retailer.
Inside is IWC’s automatic calibre 51111, part of the 50000 family and known for its impressive seven-day power reserve.
The sapphire crystal and large 46 mm case give it plenty of presence, exactly as you would expect from a modern interpretation of IWC’s historic Beobachtungsuhr-inspired design.
This particular example is a full set from 2007. It was serviced by IWC in 2016, as shown in the photos, and has recently been thoroughly checked again by our watchmaker. A very special and highly collectible Big Pilot, with an excellent service history and the complete original set.
